Chrysler Group has completed its investigation of the Jefferson
North employees recently suspended for inappropriate conduct during
their lunch period. It has been determined that 13 employees
engaged in behavior that violated the Company’s Standards of
Conduct and these 13 employees were discharged today. Two remaining
employees will receive a one month disciplinary layoff without
pay.
As is evidenced by the swift action taken in this matter, it should
be clear that Chrysler Group will not tolerate such behavior and
will continue to evaluate its protocols to ensure that something
like this does not happen again.
Our customers can be assured that the Jefferson North Assembly
Plant has implemented a comprehensive quality system for all of the
vehicles it builds. This system has redundant controls that do not
allow a single person's error to result in a quality problem
flowing to the customer. In fact, early warranty results indicate
that the quality performance from the launch of the new Grand
Cherokee may be the best launch in the history of Chrysler for
vehicle reliability.
It is unfortunate that the actions of a few people have called into
question the reputation of more than 51,000 very proud,
hard-working Chrysler Group employees, grateful that the American
and Canadian taxpayers gave us a second chance. We take that
responsibility very seriously and will work to restore the
public’s faith.

If you let one employee go because of a substance abuse problem and do not let them have a chance to rehabilitate themself you are setting precedence to fire anyone for anything and whoever is reading this take it to your boss because you, your boss, his boss or anyone else in charge would want a second chance if your were caught up in a bad routine. Its not right but blue collar workers and white collar workers have had "3 martini lunches" since the beginning of Automobiles (Ford) No one says they are right by any means but substance abuse is a disease and would you fire an employee that had developed Cancer and couldn't even perform his job at all? Yes you probably would. How bout pain killers and psych drugs? Are these guys next? Personally I'd rather work next to a guy that just had a little drank and smoked a little smoke than a person that is all ZOMBIED out on psych drugs but that is personal opinion. The UAW will be back on ya and you better fly right because if you let some pansy from Philthy PA. that works under a Detroit Union Contract stab his fellow Union Brothers in the back and get away with it you can take your damn plant to Germany where the beer machines are at work and the quality is world renoun. Also their pot comes straight outta Amsterdam and there aint no quality complaints there.
