A sunny day is in store this weekend for the 2013 SRT Viper, no matter what the actual weather is like. That’s because the iconic, hand-made supercar is helping to raise money (and awareness) for a most worthy cause even before it returns to the street.

On Saturday, June 23 at 6 p.m. ET at the Barrett-Jackson car auction in Orange County, Calif., the very first production 2013 SRT Viper GTS model to come off the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant line in Detroit is being auctioned off with all proceeds from the sale going directly to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

“We are extremely grateful for this opportunity with SRT, Chrysler Group and Barrett-Jackson,” said Jim Osborn, chairman of the Austin Hatcher Foundation. “Monies raised through the auction of the 2013 SRT Viper GTS will directly fund services that empower families to live happy, meaningful and successful lives as pediatric cancer survivors.”

The initial announcement was made at a gathering of Viper owners in April, following the world debut of the new SRT Viper at the New York International Auto Show. The owners went wild when they heard news of the auction, which is not surprising, as these men and women have always been extremely generous with their time and financial support for causes like this one.

“It is an honor for Barrett-Jackson to offer such a significant car at our Orange County event to benefit such an exceptional cause as the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer,” said the auction house in a written statement. “We are proud to be a part of what is sure to be a monumental and memorable moment for all involved.”

The Austin Hatcher Foundation is the official charity of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). The SRT Motorsports Viper Racing team will make its return to ALMS competition later this year.
