When we started designing the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty Trucks we began with an excellent canvas: The 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Light Duty Truck.

But we encountered some new challenges in adapting form to function for the Ram Heavy Duty Trucks.  Specifically, he had to accommodate the legendary Cummins® Turbo Diesel Engine with 6.7-liter engine, which required a very specific cooling envelope, to the new truck design. As engineers and designers, we love turning tough challenges into prime opportunities. So we created a larger grille, and as a result, a larger, taller hood that only reinforced the heavy duty big rig theme of the vehicle. That was offset with the giant, all-chrome bumper and a pair of exposed tow hooks.  The end result is a truck that is both strong AND stylish.

Inside, we adopted the all-new interior of the Ram 1500 trucks, which gave us all kinds of new options for comfort and convenience, the most important factors for owners who expect their trucks to be offices on wheels.  By moving the shifter from the center console to the column we’ve been able to open up some prime real estate for storage. In the comfort category, we borrowed the new heated and ventilated seats from the 1500s that are as plush as they are supportive, not to mention a heated steering wheel that warms up your hands almost instantly. Believe me, I’ve used this function, I live in Michigan.

With the new Ram Heavy Duty Truck, we think we’ve balanced a tough work truck on the outside with a plush workplace on the inside.
