Rocky mountain high, altitude “attitude,” Jeep on the rocks. No matter how you say it, it’s a feeling like no other behind the wheel of a Jeep across the tough terrain of Moab, Utah. I had the chance to ride with the 2012 Moab Easter Jeep Safari media day event on Monday as they tackled some of the toughest terrains found anywhere.

Up, down, around and over … we did it all in a grueling two-and-half-hour trek across nature’s very own obstacle course. The Jeep and Mopar brands came well prepared to show off what’s new in off-road muscle and technology, putting the journalists in the drivers’ seat of six new prototype vehicles the brand unveiled last week in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept takes its off-roading prowess to the next level in performance. The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Apache from Mopar is an enthusiasts’ dream-come-true with a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 conversion kit producing 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The Jeep Mighty FC Concept … a truly ‘unique’ ride (trust me) with the cabin over the front axle. It also features Mopar’s Front Portal Axle … brand new this year.

The J-12 Concept is the extended version of Mopar’s JK-8 pickup conversion kit with beefed-up muscle and ‘dressed’ down cabin. The Mopar 2012 Jeep Wrangler comes loaded with more than 250 off-road enhancing accessories. The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Traildozer Concept – well, just like the name implies, it’s built for action adventure on Moab’s toughest trails.

Again this year, Jeep put some really tough mountain maneuvers in the rear view mirror with ease. I was left with one more word to describe this adventure …. AWESOME!! Check out some of the action for yourself on this video.
