Voluntary safety recall of 1.56 million 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-07 Jeep Liberty vehicles

Chrysler Group will conduct a voluntary safety recall of 1.56 million 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-07 Jeep Liberty vehicles for supplemental improvement in low-speed crashes. All 1.56 million vehicles will be inspected. If a vehicle doesn’t have a trailer-hitch assembly, Chrysler Group dealers will install a new trailer-hitch assembly to better manage crash forces in low-speed impacts.

Aftermarket trailer hitches will be inspected, and if the hitch is determined to be inadequate or if it has sharp edges, it will be replaced with a new trailer-hitch assembly. While vehicles with factory-installed and Mopar trailer-hitch assemblies will be inspected,...

Chrysler Group Responds to Nader's Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall Effort

Again, "consumer advocate" Ralph Nader and his Center for Auto Safety are using common scare tactics to make a big consumer safety issue -- when there is no issue.


If you haven't heard, Nader is urging the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Fiat Group to recall 1993-2004 Jeep® Grand Cherokees "because of what he calls their vulnerability to fiery rear-end crashes."


NHTSA is conducting a preliminary investigation into the claims and Chrysler Group is cooperating fully with requests for information and other items.
