Celebrity Drivers Prevail in Blistering Heat at Dodge Viper Cup Race Series Weekend

Indy Car and Champ Car star Richie Hearn, and Steven Cole Smith, longtime auto journalist and amateur racer, gave Viper ACR-X owners a run for their money at Races 3 and 4 in the Viper Cup series in

Both celebs drove at the limit of their car and themselves despite scorching 106 degree temperatures. Hearn especially brought on the heat placing second in Race 3 and first in Race 4. He’s the highest-finishing celebrity driver in the Viper Cup series to date.

Smith also gave Viper owners some competition, qualifying for respectable pole spots in both races and placing seventh in both races.

Former Indy Racer, Richie Hearn, Wins Dodge Viper Cup Race 4 at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit

Richie Hearn led all 22 race laps from the pole for a convincing win on Sunday.

“Yesterday, I feathered the clutch and didn’t get the start I wanted, said Hearn. “But today, after talking to other Viper guys, I dropped the clutch completely off the line, saw the opening on the outside, and went for it.”

Hearn’s relatively unchallenged laps left other drivers fighting for second and third spots. It was an intense competition with one major contact incident and six spins off the track.

Ryan Schimsk Wins Dodge Viper Cup Race 3 at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit

Ryan Schmisk steered his No. 67 Viper ACR-X to victory in Race 3 during the Dodge Viper Cup weekend at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, Jennings, Okla.

Schmisk came off the line strong and then kept a steady pace being careful to keep the Viper as cool as possible in blistering 106 temperatures.

“It’s amazing that a car with this much power can run this well in scorching heat,” said Schimsk.

Celebrity driver, Richie Hearn, a seasoned open-wheel driver, won a respectable second place in his first ever tin top car race.
