Battery Supplier for ENVI Vehicles Named

Chrysler announced today it's signed an agreement with A123Systems for it to produce batteries that will power Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep® electric vehicles, developed by our ENVI unit.

The Nanophosphate LIthium ion prismatic battery cells will  be produced at a facility A123Systems plans to build in Michigan. 

The heart of ENVI’s battery system is a scalable battery module, as demonstrated in ENVI’s five electric-drive vehicles showcased at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Drag! Dodge EV vs. Dodge Challenger

Gas or electric? Which one can haul...um...oats quicker?  While not on the order of the chicken/egg conundrum, it's a valid query.

So, while showing off Chrysler's three electric vehicles to the west coast media last Friday, ENVI head Lou Rhodes, and Doug Quigley decided to settle the question once and for all.

Rhodes, in the all-electric Dodge EV, and Quigley, in the Challenger, went head to head on 800 scorching feet of asphalt in the massive parking at the famed Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

They raced several times. We caught three on camera.  Watch the video to see who wins.

Unveiled Live on CNBC, Chrysler Electric Cars

It felt like an auto show on the front lawn at the Chrysler headquarters on Tuesday, as Chrysler unveiled three electric-drive vehicles live on CNBC, the financial news network. You can see the clip by clicking this link - ELECTRIC.

These three electric-drive vehicles - the Dodge EV, the Jeep EV and the Chrysler EV - can travel on electric power only, without using gasoline and without emissions. One of the three will go on sale in North America in 2010, Chrysler Chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli said on CNBC.
