Calling it “the single most innovative technology to appear
in the last 12 months” the International Engine of the Year
Awards organization has named Fiat’s 1.4-liter turbocharged
MultiAir™ the Best New Engine of 2010.
To quote the organization, the 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir: “is particularly special because it is able to increase power and torque while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The concept is therefore ideal for today’s world of eco-conscious, downsized automotive powertrains.”
The International Engine of the Year Awards are judged by a panel of 65 automotive journalists from 32 countries.

You’ll be able to drive the first application of the
1.4-liter MultiAir engine in North America when it joins the lineup
in the Fiat 500 (a first for the vehicle anywhere). And though the
1.4-liter is small, it’s mighty, packing 100 horsepower (75
kW) at 6,750 rpm and 95 lb.-ft. (129 Nm) of torque at 4,250 rpm.
MultiAir technology improves fuel economy by 10 percent and cuts
C02 emission by about the same percentage.
