Chrysler Canada posted yet another month of sales growth -- its 17th straight -- for April 2011 with total sales of 23,837, a 16% increase from last April. The strong showing by Chrysler Canada also made it the country's #2 automaker in sales, in close competition with #1 Ford and #3 General Motors. (See details at Reuters.)

As in the U.S., car sales also were strong in Canada with a 45% increase from April 2010.

"At $1.40/litre for gas, Canadian consumers are rapidly discovering the fuel economy improvements we have made to our vehicles such as our 42 mpg compact Jeep® vehicles, the 44 mpg Chrysler 200 and 55 mpg Fiat 500 to name only a few," said President/CEO of Chrysler Canada Reid Bigland.

While the top two selling vehicles -- see below -- were down from April 2010, their automotive siblings more than made up for it with significant gains. For April, the top three sellers were:

  1. Ram Pickup Truck: 5,009 units, down 4%. Through April, Ram Pickup is the #3 selling vehicle in Canada.
  2. Dodge Grand Caravan: 4,582 units, down 23%. Through April Grand Caravan is the #2 selling vehicle in Canada.
  3. Dodge Journey: 3,507, up 75%, and an all-time sales record

Other stars from the month include:

  • Jeep Wrangler: 1,901 units, up 86% and an all-time sales record

  • Chrysler 200: 1,138 units (sedan and convertible) -- compared to only 665 Chrysler Sebring cars in April 2010

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee: 1,060 units, up 245%

  • Fiat 500: 889 units

  • Dodge Avenger: 866 units, up 72% -- a strong showing in Canada, just like in the U.S.
