As we head into the second and final weekend of the New York International Auto Show, it’s a good time to sit back and take stock of the many wonderful moments generated at this annual motorized wing-ding of glass, chrome and steel.
And the best way to do it? With a list, of course.
If memory serves there’s a guy in New York named Letterman who has made quite a name for himself (and a pretty good living) delivering Top 10 Lists on TV every night on one inane subject or another. That could serve as our model.
Anyway, for our purposes (and because of time constraints), here’s our "Top Five Best-in-Show" at the New York Auto Show:
2013 SRT® Viper
Leading up to the NYIAS, the 2013 SRT Viper was the topic of a tremendous amount of pre-show, online “buzz” – and the unveiling didn’t disappoint. The new SRT Viper is the fifth generation of the iconic supercar that offers superior craftsmanship and a host of new technologies. Plus, it's the only car built by hand that is available from a major car company. Vroommmm.
2013 SRT Viper GTS-R
The surprise of the show, mostly because nobody knew it was coming. We learned that the SRT folks are good at keeping a secret; we already knew they were good at developing fast, stylish cars. The Viper GTS-R will compete in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) later this year.
2013 Ram 1500
Best in Class. That's the only way to describe the new Ram 1500, as it shines with the best fuel economy in the segment, pioneering technologies and more capability than any other full-size truck. The 2013 Ram 1500 delivers unmatched durability, performance and refinement to customers.
2013
Dodge Dart RallyCross Race CarAlso making its official public debut in New York is the 2013 Dodge Dart RallyCross race car. Power is the name of the game here, with a turbocharged 16-valve 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 600 hp and 550 lb-ft. of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a Sadev gearbox.
Travis Pastrana
Dodge and SRT Motorsports have secured a deal with four-time Rally America champion Travis Pastrana, the man who for many is the face of extreme sports. Eager to get involved quickly, Travis made an appearance at the Dodge display at NYIAS, signing autographs and getting to know race fans (image). He's also beginning to get to know the Dart Rallye car. To catch video of him ripping through the track at the Chelsea Proving Grounds outside Detroit, visit our Dart Global RallyCross Championship Facebook tab.
